Hi All,

There is an 8N for sale in my area. Not that I need another N or that I have plenty of money but out of curiosity, I called the guy today. He said he thought it had the side mount distributor (how could he not know for sure?) and he had done some restoration (painted hood and fenders). He said the top lift linkage (according to him, where the big spring goes) was broken on the lift cover. Other than that, he said lift works and the engine runs fairly well.

How difficult would it be to acquire another draft linkage rod, assuming nothing else is broken? The guy is asking $1900.

I thought I might buy another N if I ever came across a good deal on one. I can’t see paying a premium price for another N when I have one in excellent condition. Thanks in advance for any and all comments. Rick H. Ga.

Rick H. If you come up with a cost on repairing the spring etc, could you let me know. I'm going to take a look at a 9N in a couple of days, that the ownner said has the same problem, he broke the spring and rod, he said while brush hoging.Would appreciate any comments on this. Ron

Hi U. P. Mich.,

I called the local NH dealer and they said they didn't keep them in stock but could order the plunger rod ($122 ouch!). Just 8N's has them for less but am not sure Don or YTMag would want me to post his prices. I am not sure about the big spring.

I haven't made up my mind if I'm really interested in the 8N with the broken draft control rod. I don't guess it hurts to look but I don't want be a tire kicker and a well wisher.:-) Rick H. Ga.

Rick. I just got a price of about $40.00 for both the rod and spring and $175 for the whole top. Understand it takes about 3 hours to replace the whole top. Not a bad price. Ron
