I'm considering buying an 8n ... the unit I'm looking at has low oil pressure (10-15 lbs) when warmed up. It seems to run ok and doesn't make any knocking noises. Exhaust seems normal, no black smoke, etc. I've heard that this could be one of several things 1) bad oil 2) bad pressure guage 3) bad oil pump or 4) bad main bearing. How would one islolate the problem? If the main bearing is bad would there be an oil leak.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I have to agree. Hot oil pressure in the double digits is still serviceable.. and who knows.. might be a light oil in htere anyway.. like 10w-30... if you get it, do an oil change and go to sae 30..if you don't like those pressures.. go to sae 40. If you think the gauge is bad.. there are many inexpensive ones available at tuto parts stores.. I picked up a sunpro for 9.99.. came with the sea adapters i needed... fit perfect..

Russ,
Unless the engine were newly rebuilt, 10-15# hot pressure is very acceptable. You might be able to increase that some by changing to a heavier weight oil.
