8N- Crazy brake problem

I have an 8N that has a problem that is driving me and the mechanic nuts. On occasion, and especially after the tractor has sat overnight the right rear brake will lock up. The tractor will move fine in reverse, but when you start to go forward is when this lock up occurs. Sometime the brake will stick a hair and on other occasions it will lock up so bad that the tractor will spin in a circle.

The only thing that seems to be consistent is that the lock up occurs, after the tractor has set up a while and has not locked up in reverse, yet. The mechanic has looked at it and says the only thing that he can see so far it that there are some shims in the brake system. He is not quite certain why they are there. I offered to spend the money to buy a new brake drum and he said that would not fix the problem. Now I am really confused and I think he is to. Thanks for any help you can offer.

pcromer..... .....the shims are for rear axle bearing adjustment...not...brake adjustment.

Sounds to me that your brake retract spring is not hooked up correctly. See your I&T F-4 manual for spring installation..... ...Dell
