That bronze drain is plugged up. It is as clean as can be externally but it won't let fuel drain through. It won't even pass naptha.
Any experience opening up that dang thing? I haven't tried carb cleaner and I won't without a good recommendation from someone. I mean nothing gets in there; whatever I put on it just sits on top because it's plugged internally and the bronze absorbs nothing.
Maybe I should heat it up. Heat it up to like 400 degrees and blow it out. I could get it hotter then that. If I foul it up I can always epoxy the hole shut because that wouldn't be any different then what I have now.
Huh. Anyone know of a bronze filter element that I could install if I removed what I have and tapped that hole, or something? Or a filter I could epoxy in there? Where can I get a bronze filter 1/4" to 1/2" dia x 1/8" to 1/4" thick?
I want it working so I can see it's flooded without having to remove the air inlet. Way it is now the gas will sit in there until I remove the air inlet and swab it out. At least it will when it's cold outside.
I did get all, I think all, the air passages open. That little-bity passage on top of the throttle is sooo tiny! It's open but I need Zane's tip cleaners to ream it out good.

Hi Rob I would not heat the carb to clear that drain filter, they are normaly a press fit or have a small retainer ring. The brass filter is the same as the one in Zenith Bendex carbs, old Gravely walk behind tractors used the Z-B. carb so call NH or Gravely . If all else fails poke a small 1/16 or less hole through.

That filter isn't meant to be removed, looks like they peened the carb body over it. Can't get to it to push it out from inside the carb because it's a small hole in there. Drilling a hole in it would let unfiltered air enter the engine and a small hole would be pluged up next grass seed or piece of trash got sucked up there. I doubt it would be long before 1/16" was plugged.
I've been thinking it might not take more then a kitchen match to heat it up and soften that crap. It's gasoline varnish probably. That filter can't be too thick maybe just over 1/8", just plugged solid with varnish. I wonder if that varnish gets soft so I can blow it out if heated. Varnish might even just burn up with a kitchen match. Don't know if that would be an improvement though. Can a guy get burnt varnish out of it?
Pain in the tush. I'll worry about it next time I remove the carb I guess.
