What was the color of the belt pulley

I was wondering if any one knew what the color was of the original belt pulley.

Hey joe. It depends. First off, there were two types of pulleys: one with the "paper" pulley, and one with a rolled steel pulley. It also depends on what tractor you have. 2N pulleys, if steel would have been painted all gray. If the wooden pulleys, then the cast iron body would be painted to match the color of the tractor and the pulley itself would be either left natural with some lacqure or shellac over it for protction, or painted black.

Hey 8N Joe. I'm not sure what color they originally were painted, but the one I got off e-bay sometime ago was gray and it looked like it was original paint. (maybe not) I've got it all cleaned up with new seals and as soon as I get some oil for it, I'm going to paint mine red to match my 8N.
