After repairing and replacing the starter bendix, ring gear, clutch plate, pilot bearing, disc., I turned around to where all the oil is coming from. However, I can not get the Sherman input cover off because there is a pin, inside the housing, holding the shift lever to the shaft. It looks like someone hammered one end, put it in from the backside, and then hammered it on the front. What size is this pin, and what should be there? I probably will drill it, but am not real sure of the size.
While I got you here, what is the torque spec. for the bolts in the flywheel. Mine says 75-85 lbs. but it felt like one was stripping when I got there!

Not sure from your discription but you might be better off filing the end of the pin rather then drilling it. Dunno.

Rich..... ....most of the time, we consider ourselves lucky to even have an assembly picture of the parts we're working, leave alone a detailed mfgr specification of mundain part like a pin which has been "farmerized". You should be clever enough to measure the pin after you've removed it by cutting it out.

As for your crankshaft flywheel bolt "stripping", sounds to me that you ought to remove the stripped bolt for a lookie-lookie. p/n 350816-S is a 7/16-20 X 7/8" hexhead bolt. My Boeing Designers Manual lists 78 ft/lbs for grade 8 bolt..... .....respectfully, Dell
