Can a proofmeter be added to a early 8N that does not have one? Is it just a matter of adding the guage, and cable, or do I have to change something else?

I just picked this tractor up, and it's my first, and it just seems like it would be easyer to use with one. Thanks.

Paul..... ...Yes, you can change the dashpanel to late model 8N dashpanel $$$ for proofmeter mounting and yes, you can get the correct governor housing $$$ to drive the proofmeter gutts, and yes replacement proofmeters $$$ are available, and yes replacement proofmeter cables are available $$$.

...OR... you can get a watch battery operated transisorized LCD tachometer from some hot-rod place like JCWhitney for $20 and stickitt on your dashpanel..... .....Dell

Check your governor housing. You may not need to replace yours.

I have a 50 8n without a proofmeter, but the governor has a cable socket with a cap over it. I believe the cap simply unscrews. It seems that in 1950 the new governor housings were ready before either the proofmeters or the redesigned instrument panels. Or maybe mine was just replaced with the newer housing.

You need to get the $237 governor with the shaft and housing to connect the cable from the proofmeter.
