Ok guys (and gals)... I have read thru the archives on this subject... poured thru 1600 atricles. I just want to make sure I am on the right track here.

This Jubilee runs fine for about 30 minutes and will continue to run if not under load or going up a hill. When it starts to die, I can keep it running with the choke and throttle full on, but only for a while and then it just completely dies.

I have put in new tune up kits and 3 carb rebuilds following Zane's excellent and thorough documentation. The prevailing theory in the archives is an air leak. So, my belief at this point is that I have a leak in the manifold or the carb gasket. My next step is to dowse it w/ WD40.

What else can I do to quickly pin point this. I am putting this (along w/ 3 of my other Ns) in a 4th of July parade and would be embarrased to have to tow it like I had to last year. :-)

Thanks in advance for any help!
Patrick

You've had some good advice already... I'll throw in my .02..

When it starts to die, try removing your gas cap.. perhaps you are getting a vacume on the fuel tank...

I'm sure this isn't the cause of your problem, but since I replaced my sediment bowl cork gasket with a neoprene gasket, she has been running smoother than ever and no more sputtering after warmup under a load. Of course, a new manifold and gaskets didnt hurt either.

Ya know, you're not saying much by noting that it dies after 30 minutes. That doesn't even give you the basic set of info! You are left with the 30-minutes-so-it-must-be-the-coil best guess or other guesses as experience might dictate.
It would be much better if you did a bit of troublehooting when it fails after 30 minutes. What does the spark look like? Is there a full pipe fuel flow? You know, the basics.
Is there a spark at the top of the coil? If there is it's the coil or distributor and that means a very good chance it's the coil because of the 30 minute thing.
Is there a regular spark at any one plug? If there is the coil and distributor are ok and it's in the secondary. Find crappy plugs and wires or fix the fuel problem.
'It craps out after 30 minutes' isn't much to work with here. So next time it starts acting up or craps out after 30 minutes I suggest that instead of standing there looking at it scratching your butt wondering what is wrong that you get in there and start checking stuff.
Or you can keep throwing parts at it. At least scratching your butt doesn't cost anything.

Pat..... ...Bad roundcan ignition coil. Takes about 1/2-1 hr to melt the insulative tar inside and short out some turns and cause weak sparkies. By enriching your carb mixture with the choke, you can make weak sparkies still fire the mixture, but will have loss of power with too rich carb mixture. Get a real 6 volt or if yer converted, a real 12 volt coil that doesn't use any resistors..... ....Dell

Sound like your fuel flow is just enought for it to run but under load when using lots of fuel like going up hill it starts to starve, lean out and get hot and die. By choking it you give it a little more fuel but not for long. I had this happen to my Ferguson and found it was starving. cleaned the fuel screen, carb filter and gas tank, the problem went away. If this does not happen with a full tank of gas "that would give you a little more presure" that would indicate you are real close to getting enought fuel but not for high loads. If you can let off it for a while (to fill carb bowl) and it will run right but when you load it up it dies, that is what I would check. Mark H.

That head could be warped some and it gets worse when heated up , causing loss of compression.

Patrick...the symptoms you describe point towards a bad ignition coil....A bad coil will be good for around 45 min to an hour or so...(your 30 mins is pretty close)... When the coil heats up the insides melt and that causes weaker (bad) sparks....After the insides of the coil cool down and harden...it'll run for another 30 or so minutes....

Here are some other symptoms and causes:

1) Bad igniton switch- runs for 10-15 mins then dies
2) Bad condensor- runs for 15 secs then dies

My vote is for the bad coil...but some others will chime in with there advice...
