There should be a date code where the starter mounts to the engine. Something like "D 2 7" D=April 2=2nd 7=1947.

This tells the exact day the block was cast.

There is a date on the left rear axle trumpet, something like 5-12-47. This tells the exact date the trumpet was cast.

If both of these dates are close, its a good indicator of the tractors year, but these parts are interchangeable on all 9N,2N and 8Ns.

The quickest way (well one of...) is the radius rods. Ovel style or I beam style...
I'd still say you have a 46 2N
Let us know!

The problem with that...the '43 had forged radius rods. I don't know of any difference between my '41 and my neighbor's '43 except for the original price paid.

In the photo L to R: '41, '46, '43.

Yes your right, but given Roberts prior information, and the fact that he thought he had a 1940 9N,,,, He told us his serial number was *9N21852?*,,, So, we are left but with only a few choices... A 1940 9N, or a 1946 2N... In Roberts case, he feels that the ? mark is an "I". Most N owners would agree that Fords stamped #1 looked more like a stamped letter I. Therefore, young Watson, ( :) ) we could deduct that this should be a '46 2N. Yet Robert has some doubts.... So, which radius rods does he have???? "I beam" or "round/oval"??? Assuming all is original,,, He should have "Oval" radius rods.... Thus a 1946 2N.
Respectfully,
Adam
PS Nice little liNe up!!!
