I HAVE A 1941 9N THAT HAS DEVELOPED A BAD TRANSMISSION CLUNCK IN 3RD GEAR ONLY. THE TRACTOR POPPED OUT OF GEAR(NOT UNDER LOAD) AND WHEN I PUT IT BACK IN HAD A RHYTHMIC KNOCK. THIRD STILL WORKS. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND IF SO HOW MUCH DAMAGE WILL I DO BY JUST USING THE OTHER 2 FORWARD GEARS?

Bryon, just remove filler cap on trans and look in there as you spin back wheels have it jacked up should see third gear top shaft (front set of gears) put trans in nutral

Just a guess, but did a tooth break on 3rd gear? The only way to tell is to remove the top transmission cover and inspect the gears and lever assembly.

we ran for 25 years with no first gear on a 2N. Finally replaced the trans a few years ago.
