First, Thanks to all that replied! It was great. I examined each response a worked it out today.

I was sort of correct. The carb was not as snug to the manifold as it should have been. The WD40 found that one. But it still failed.

I had a gadget that is put in series w/ a spark plug, so I was able to monitor the spark as it died... plenty of spark. So! On to the gas tank.

Although 2 full turns of the sediment bowl is the standard, it turns out that was not enough. This fooled me as fuel was coming out. So, just to be sure, I opened the valve full open as someone had suggested.... that sucker ran for nearly two hours disking and blading. It would never run that long before.

So, I just happen to have a new sediment bowl and will replace it tomorrow.

ANYWAY... THANKS TO ALL!
This is a great board w/ great people!

Patrick

Yes, I know what you mean! :-)
I found this neat gadget that you plug onto the spark plug and then connect the spark plug wire from the disti-cap to it. It lights up w/ every spark and it doesn't hamper the operation. It is pretty amazing.

I ran across it in a tool drawer the other day. I have no idea where or when I got it.

I am not saying coils can't go bad! But I sure would check a lot of other things first befor I replaced one since it is so low on my list for thing to go wrong for me. I have had so many fuel related problems in the past that is where I allways check after pulling the coil wire and seeing if I got spark to the block, then pulling the plug wire and doing the same. I am doing these test not because of bad coils but other electrical related problems. Some day I may find a bad coil. Mark H.

Those simple fuel problems can be a real bummer once in a while! Glad you got it fixed and let us know what you found. I wish more people did that! Then we could at least know what was wrong or fixed the problem. People go thru the trouble of trying to help then never know if it helped or fixed the problem. Mark H.

Mark,
Sounds like a good chance one of the filters are clogging up,easy to check while changing the sediment bowl.

I have pulled the fuel valves befor and found the reserve lower opening clogged and the regular upper one open befor. Funny what years of fuel going in these tanks can do. Mark H.
