Ray, Ron and I have been discussing water pumps and thermostats and it has dawned on me that many of us don't know water pump basics. This is understandable because you won't find this in your owner's manual; you should find it but you won't. This goes for any water pump so far as I know.
When ever you find yourself having to add coolant to a vehicle you should reach over and run a couple of fingers under the pump from the pulley back to the block. If your fingers come out shiney wet your pump is leaking out the weep hole and needs rebuilt or replaced. You can lean over an N and see the water stain under there. A lot of cars you can see the water stain if you know to look.
That's how you keep from getting stranded on the highway with a bad water pump. They put that weep hole there just so you can make this check and get a warning of immenent pump failure.
Problem is; THEY DON'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT THE DANG WEEPHOLE AND TO CHECK IT IF YOU ARE ADDING COOLANT!
But now you know. HTH
