I got an e-mail from a fellow that said that when he tries to post here, he gets a message that he is being "blocked by a remote host" Any ideas why? Thanx Ron

For some reason YT has blocked a range of addresses from whatever ISP he is using. Or if his ISP gives him a static IP then that single IP is blocked. For instance, if I use ATT Worldnet dialup and make an offensive post, YT might block a range of IP addresses that ATT uses (because the next time I dial up I'll get a different address in that range).

If he uses an ISP that gives him a static IP (like mine does) then something he posted in the past offended YT.

It's too much of a shotgun approach and stops some innocent people from posting.

Bad language or he was banned for something he posted.

Yabbut, Kim usually e-mails ya and tells ya that you've been booted, in which case he would know that. I also don't know if he's ever been able to post here. Thanx Ron

Ron..... ...dispite what the true believers on the other "infamous N-Board" want to believe in their disillusions about me, I too, have had some of my N-Board postings "blocked" by Kims potty filter. Unfortunately, the potty filter doesn't tell you what your "sin" was.

And while Kim does have the ability to "block" certain ISP addresses, I doubt that she would find it to her advantage to block major ISP addresses just to prevent posting from one "obnoxious" individual. But I've always said, its Kim's toybox, her rules..... .....Dell

>>I doubt that she would find it to her advantage to block major ISP addresses just to prevent posting from one "obnoxious" individual<<

Hmmm...if the blocking is not done by IP address range, how is it done? Modems don't have a MAC address, so it can't be it. Since dial up ISP's assign a new IP address every time your modem dials in, the only way to block someone would be to block an IP range. If not, no one would ever get blocked. All they would have to do is disconnect and reconnect and viola! They are back in.

Help me to understand why Ron's friend is not the victim of blocked IP addresses when the message is "Blocked by remote host" and not the filter message that is usually "Message could not be added."

Nearly all discussion forums require you to have "cookies enabled" in hte browser. At least to some small degree, so that forum cookies are "returned to host". That's how the forum's "know" ho you are. So, he probably has the lockout cookie on his machine. In Netscape the file is called cookies.txt. It says not to edit it, but it can be edited in notepad, if you know what you are looking for.
A better tool (free)for editing these types of files is called Notespad. I think it's www.notespad.com

Cookies are too simple to defeat. I use GuardIE that scrubs all cookies everytime I close my browser. Besides, YT does not place any cookies on your computer. I stand behind my original post that it is an IP address range that gets blocked.

Click on one of the topics in the left hand column.
After you have read it, the title will be a different color. That's because there is a cookie on your machine now that tells the baord you have read it. It will remain that way even though you log off, reboot and log back on. So Yes, YT does utilize cookies.

Right now, for my viewing, all of the titles are blue except for the "Paint Codes" which i viewed Friday.

later,
Larry

Oh you know about getting banned then.
The other deal is offensive words in a post. This site doesn't allow even some very mild cussing. You put one of those words in a post and mozilla blocks it and gives you a message.
