OK, I have gone through all the archives about removing sludge fron the hydraulics. There are a boatload of opinions. Some say leave things alone, some say run kerosene then drain and refill, some say you have to take things apart to get it clean, some say if you flush, the sludge will get moved into parts where you don't want it to go. Whats the current thinking on this. AND what's better tractor supply's gear oil made for ford tractors or the m2c-134d

I pulled the pto and dropped the pump on mine 2 years ago and cleaned everything out inside with rags. Refilled with standard 80W90 gear oil.
A year later the oil was milky from water in it - bad shifter boot - so I drained it, put 4 gals. of kerosine in it and drove it around for half an hour. Drained it and refilled with 134D.
Now it leaks like a sieve and the pump chatters when I put my heavy disc or bush hog on it.
I've got some brush piles to burn one of these days. Gonna drain the 134D out of it and use it for starting fires.
Then go back to 80W90

TSC, Ford, wotever; it needs to be 134D. That's a standard spec not a brand name. Unless you are going for mineral oil. Read the label.

The current thinking hasn't changed.

Personally, since you're supposed to change the hyd fuid every year anyway, here's what I do:

Drain fluid into a CLEAN container, preferably one with a really big pan. SEARCH for metal particles, crud, water, anything that ain't fluid.

If'n ya see metal shavings/pieces floatin' around ya need to consider finding and fixing the source. While at it, complete flush with keroscene, followed by letting it air out completely to evaporate residual kerosene.

If'n it's just sludge and/or water you're okay not disturbing anything. Refill with 134d or TSC.
