OK, am I the only one? When I changed the oil on my 8N, the oil filter JUST fits between the gas tank, and the filter pipe. You almost have to force it to get the filter in. Is thos normal? Do I have somethong wrong? Thanks for any help.

Paul

I just did an oil change on a 9n. I ran into the same problem. What did you end up doing?

Nope...

I have no trouble at all removing or install the filter with the cannister bolted tight to the block...

Strange...I seem to be the only one that has no trouble at all...Hmmm...

Ditto on ole henry.. I have to loosen the oil canister to get the element in.. plus makes it easier to clean.

I have noticed that the all paper/rubber elements are a hair smaller than the new style in the metal cans with a bail.. the old style may fit in fine.. bu that bail is nice to have when removing the filter element, etc.

As for spin on.. I have the spin on on my NAA, and I guess it is just slightly better at not spilling as much oil as the cannister.. but still.. I have considered using one of those remote kits, and relocating the canister to hanging position.. perhaps also using a larger filter..... though I'll probably never get around to it as i only get enough use out of each of the 3 tractors to do 1 yearly oil change anyway...

Nope, you're not the only one. I usually remove the canister and clean out the gunk at each change. While the canister is off I install the filter, much easier this way. I'm planning to change to a spin-on type filter, but haven't done it yet.

As to your post about the screen, I don't think it will hurt if the screen is off provided you don't go very long before you change again.

Hope this helps....John A
