Parked up the 8N but left ignition turned on. Following day wouldnt start and no spark. Could leaving the ignition turned on have caused coil (12Volt ) to burn out. All suggestions welcome.

It is most likely a case of burned up points. With the key on you have a continuous power applied to the coil. If the points happened to be closed when you parked it then...well no sparkies when you come back. Good luck.

Wouldn't be bad to check both... Though points are cheap and easy.. then if no spark.. try the coil.

If he has a dressing stone.. he might even try dressing the points just to check if spark returns.. then he would know whether coil was bad too. Either way.. a few bucks for points is the way to go in the end..imho

If I remember right there's also a resistor under the left side of the instrument panel that could fry. If you have no power to the coil, try there.

True,, the resistor is a point to check, and the key switch as well.
