My 9N has a Marvel-Schebler TSX-33 carb. I picked up a TISCO C546 repair kit but on the back is says it is for 39-52 using the TSX-241A, TXS-241B, and the TXS-241C versions.
Do I have the wrong kit?
Or do I have the wrong carb for this 9N?
Where/when was the TSX-33 used?

By the way, it would be good if someone explained the different versions for us dummies.

thanks for your help

The TSX-241 series is a TSX-33 with a "back suction economizer" added. The float bowl is sealed and there is an extra drilled passage including a threaded jet connecting the throttle plate area to the float bowl. The 241a, 241b, 241c designations refer to a series of minor internal changes off the TSX-241 base attempting to improve the off-idle throttle transfer characteristics of the carburetor.

The needle/seat, gaskets, choke plate, throttle plate, idle needle, venturi, float, and throttle packing are the same in all of them. The jets may be different between the different models. The TSX-241 has an economizer jet not used in the TSX-33.

One generic rebuild kit works for all of them. In fact, any of the carbs will work on any of the engines.

If your carb kit includes jets, there is probably an excess of them. You will have to choose the ones corresponding to what is in your carb now. You can use a numbered drill bit set to do this. You can probably just eyeball it if you have to.

I believe the TSX-33 carb is correct for the 39-41 9N. I'm not sure exactly when the TSX-241 began to be used in the 2N/8N.

We have just rebuilt a TSX-33 and as you stated there is no "economizer". What it does have however is a hole that must have been plugged with putty or something that blew out, (the reason for the rebuild), in the center bottom of the carb bowl. It is not the actual large drain plug but is refered to in some manuals as a plug and other manuals as an air "something" drain. (I do not have the manual at the moment.) It is of extremly small diameter and seems to require quite a long screw as the threads do not start until deeper in the hole. This was not included with the rebuild kit. The area the screw goes into has a machined recessed flat area into which a washer fits perfectly but may be for a fiber gasket or something? Could you please enlighten me as to wither it is a special type screw? Any help on this curiosity would be appreciated.

Very nice reply, just wanted to notate that the TSX-33 has an economiser jet. The 241A&B do not, 241C has it again. If the kit is truly for the models through TSX-241C it should have all three jets, if not they may be purchased from some N parts houses.
