I have a 8n and noticed that the upper lift arms are not in the same position. The arms are about an inch or so different.Should I worry about it or leave it alone? If it needs fixed how do the arms come off?I removed the two bolts and cover and the left side looks all rusted over.Any help would be appericated.Thank you

I didn't bust my lift cover removing the lift arms. I busted my lift cover using a hydraulic shop press to press the rockshaft and bushings out of the cover. I used an oxy-acetylene torch to heat the lift arms red-hot and a brass/copper mallet to knock the arms off (with the lift cover still on the tractor). One side was very difficult to get off but the other side came off without any heat. I purchased a new lift cover from Don B. and completed rebuilding the lift cover. It was definitely a learning experience. Rick H. Ga.

Hi Randy,

If the rockshaft is twisted, leave it alone. If one of the lift arms is bent, you can get them off with a lot of heat, a soft face mallet/hammer and a lot of persuasion.

When I restored my 49 8N a couple of years ago, removing the lift arms to rebuild the lift cover was the toughest job I encountered during the whole process (and busted my lift cover in the process).

Unless you want to tackle the job of removing the arms, you can use the adjustment linkage to level the lower hitch arms, as the others have suggested or you can heat and bend the arms while in place. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

Just like Dell said..... cause many times people break the arms or top plate trying to remove them...

Randy..... ....leave'em. Thats why they have ball joints and a crank'em lift leveling box to allow for miss-alignment. As long as you can hook-up to what ever 3-point implement you want to, shouldn't be a problem. Most likely one of the lift arms is slightly bent somewheres..... ....Dell
