I have a 51 8N.
Replaced the cylinder and piston with the "O" ring style. Drained all the oil out and pulled the hydraulic pump. Cleaned up the outside and replaced the check/safety valve assembly.

Started the reassembly of all the parts. Since the pump and hydraulic lift cylinder inlet tube
would be empty of fluid I wanted to fill these things up before reassembly and poured some oil into the tube at the top.

Oil is running on through the pump and is filling the area around the pump. Is this normal at this stage? Will the pump fill up and work correctly when there is more oil around the pump and it is running?

I could see no leakage around the pump before disassembly.

Paul..... ....unlike the NAA Jublie, the 8N's hydraulic system is "self-priming". Just putter together and pump..... ....Dell

Del
Thanks for the input. I feel HE brought to mind the answer to my concern about the oil in the botton of the compartment.

With the hand control lever not connected, the pump is spring loaded so the exhaust valve is open
so fluid will run through it from the lift cylinder area.
