Has anyone used/made a frame to support their post hole digger when not in use. I just got a new PHD for my NAA this weekend and (after digging a practice hole) had to take the auger off to remove the thing from my tractor. I've searched the archives with little luck and would appreciate any ideas that have worked for you guys. Thanks in advance

Philm

My PHD has a hook on top and I hang it on a chain bolted to a rafter in the equipment shed. It is just at the right height to take on an off easily and I can swing it out of the way after dismounting (parallel to the wall).

I have seen more than one PHD hanging by a chain from a rather large tree. I would think leaving that auger stuck in the ground would invite the rust termites . ( electrolisis ) I leave all my implements parked on wooden pallets to help prevent rust. It helps a lot .

I hang my PHD from the rafter on the outside corner of my barn, I have a 2' overhang so it is basically out of the weather. I raise the hydraulic as high as it will go and have a heavy strap that wraps under the boom and gearbox. Then i lower the hydraulic and disconnect the lift arms and top link connector.
Has worked good for me for ten years.

Phil..... ...why not do it the "eazy-way", let it dig a hole in the ground and store it that way? Instead of some clapptrapp hang'em high tripod?..... ....Dell

Just find a place where you want to leave the post hole digger. Dig a hole and leave it in the hole. Put the lower lift arm links on a couple of logs and you can take it off and on by yourself. I have done it that way for years with a Danhauser that I can't lift by my self.

Your mileage may vary

Oh well poop! That's just too easy and makes way too much sense and you don't get to use the welder!
