Here I sit, with various automotive wonders in the driveway, most using heavy gear lubes in their transmissions and rear ends. This causes a good bit of power loss. Modern automotive engineers have recognized this, as well the overkill of a lot of gear lubes, and are recommending things like atf in manual transmissions and such for new cars. Even our beloved N's have been backdated on oil, getting the 134 recommendation.

Hmmm.... this gets me to thinking (always dangerous).

What would the Ford 134 oil be like in a transmission or a rear end of my cars? Anyone ever done this, or have any knowledge on the subject? The oil should certainly be able to take the shear loading a differential can put on it since it lubes the differential of the tractor. Not so sure about the brass and bronze bits inside a transmission, but those tend to have problems with the higher GL numbers, not the lower ones, and 134 I believe is effectively quite low (GL1 maybe).

I had a new car and changed the rear end fluid. What came out was a reddish thin fluid. I had always heard that in the north they put trans fluid in for the cold weather. I think the 134 would work in the rear and standard trans for cars.
