Hyd check valve question

I am installing the check valve assembly (638). The assembly (638) has a valve (635), spring (645)on its end. At the back end of the assembly is a stem that the spring slides over. At the base of the stem there is a section with a larger diameter.

My question is, when I slip the spring on the stem, does the end of the spring butt up against this larger section OR do I push the end of the spring over this larger section of the stem?

I have the unit that I just replaced in my hand. The spring goes over the plunger shaft and goes over the slightly larger diameter base which has the holes in it. With the spring in place, it will cover but not obscure the oil holes. Another way of saying this is that the spring should come up to the end of the threads on the unit. Email me if you are not sure. wc
