Anyone know how hard it is to change the relief valve on the 8n Pump without tearing too much apart? What is the easiest way to do this?

Thanks in Advance!
Patrick

Patrick -

I just did mine (turns out it wasn't the problem though - ugh!). I had Zane's help with the wrench. It took 2 wrenches as I had the first one cut and welded the wrong direction (over when it should have been sideways). Even with the wrench, I must say that I think I ran out of "flowery language" that day. I did not enjoy the change at all. I've got fairly large hands so while I did eventually get the old valve out (I would build wrench differently as mine in bent in the center limited the range of motion) getting the new one in and the threads started wasn't exactly a piece of cake for me. It was tough to get my hand in place and to reach around the PTO shaft to start the threads.

Even with the F0-4 manual, I still ended up draining the oil to even find the valve to verify my target. Note: this was my first time to change the valve, but next time I'll probably pull the PTO shaft as others mentioned.

Maybe I missed some obvious things to do that may have made it easier, but I sure learned a lot. Experienced folks probably have a much easier time with it and some say it should be a 15 minute job. Just a bummer that the valve wasn't my problem.

Oh, and because I was working outside on a sunny day without the luxury of powered lights, I popped off the other side plate which allowed plenty of light in to see what was going on.

Remove the left side inspection plate.

Bend an 11/16" box end wrench in a 90% shape so it can reach under the PTO shaft to loosen the relief valve. Use the boxed end.

I drained the 5 gallons of fluid, pulled the pto shaft so I could see what I was doing and get a normal 11/ 16 to fit, its your call, I would do it the same way again, never did like working in the dark under oil . ( you will see what Im talking about )

Zane, Thanks!
I will do just that!

Did you get my email? I want a lift adjustment kit for a 100 series lift. I will be sending that along on Monday. Perhaps I will call you then?

Thanks!
P

I don't recall receiving your Email.

Email me again and be sure to include the "subject" or I may not open it if I don't recognize the name etc.
