Had/have a great runnin 52 8n. Still 6v. Starts
great cold or hot.... till recently. Worked it hard disc-ing up an arena. Stopped at a local
store and when I returned it would not start at
all. (called my neighbor and he pulled it with his cadillac..jump started fine) This winter if it did not fire when cold in the first rev it was not gonna start. Battery was gettin old. Bought new 6V. Same stinkin problem. Now it turned over quicker but still would not start consistently or at all. First rev it would fire then too cold to keep running.

What to do, what to do? Gettin kinda ticked... ifyaknowhatimean. Then one morning I woke up and had a thought to retard the spark a bit. ( Thank you Lord...!) Went out and took off the distributor cap. (easy cause it is on the side) and put it in front of the distrib. Hit the started button to see what way it rotated and CRUNCH... distrib cap now lodged in fan .. (whatadope !) No harm however and I found it turning counter clockwise (i think) retarded the spark about a smidgin of a turn and.....
SHAZAAM 'ole bessy starts on a whim again.. hot cold whatever.. I love this tractor...

Thanks for your time and keep on tractorin'
Steve

Don't ya just hate them stupid little problems? Sounds about like my luck, mine is a 48 and with the front mount dist. I would have not only taken out the cap but also the coil and then probably the radiator too. I remember one time on my Model "A" it would not start and so I took off the cap and rotor and cleaned the points and check for fire at the coil lead, presto nice blue spark, jumped back in the car and stupid thing still wouldn't start, smelled gas but wouldn't hit a lick.....STUPID me, rotor was in my pocket!!!!

You ever get the feeling if you didn't have bad luck you'd have no luck at all? Must be one of them Murphy's Law things..... I don't think that I like him.

John

Funny you should mention that. I have a 48 front mount 8n. After putting all new parts and seals into the distributor, I headed out to the N to install it. As I bent over, I felt something dig into my thigh.....you guessed it, the rotor. At least I found it BEFORE I installed the distributor.
