Went and started the 8N with the hog still attached...Didn't even make one 30 yard pass before I knew something was wrong...

First pics are the left lower lift arm...One half obviously was snapped before and then the second half went...

I shut it down and started looking things over, and I see this on the bottom of the right side leveling assembly...

I have found the lower lift arm, but need to know the part number of the bottom fork for the leveling assembly...I can find the leveling box without the lower (internally threaded) fork...All I need is the lower fork...

Anyone think that the right lower fork will hold up if welded???

Thanks in advance!

A good weld will be as strong as the original on the yoke or the arm

Yep, what Ray said. A good weld will hold up better than the original. I've had parts that looked just like that before. Had 'em welded up by someone that knew his stuff 12 years ago. they were still on the tractor I sold last spring.
Later, Lee

One of the lift arm that came on my 8n was welded right at the swivel.. at the thinnest part... I used it that way for about 6 months before I finally replaced it with a new one. The arm looked oem, and makched the other one.

It held up my disc fine... I'm with the others.. if you've got access to a welder... weld it.. can't hurt.. especially if you can tack a small flat runner under it too. ( Then again, a brand new nearly 100% matching lift arm at TSC is about 35 bucks, plus your trouble of getting those retaining nuts off the lifk arm brackets. )

Good luck,

Soundguy

My leveling box is welded above the clevis and has held for the 14 years I have owned the tractor. I haven't babied anything on this tractor.

Salmon, My fork is welded at that point....welded before I got it, and has held very well....give it a shot.

Ha Salmoneye,The number on that fork is EC0N585A, I welded mine with a wire feed welder several months ago,and it's holding up fine. The lift arm can be welded, but I don't think it would hold in such a high stress location.hth

Depends on who's doing the welding. Gotta figure that can be welded up near good as new. Then make sure one side of the clevis is not higher then the other so the pin rests on both sides and all the load isn't on one. Probably have to file some to get the good fit.

my father broke his lift arm the exact same way back before i was born, over 20 years ago that is, he welded his with a stick welder and added a little peice of square stock about 10 inches long along the bottom edge of the lift arm, it has held up fine for years now, even with the heavy disk harrow banging around against the limit chains, and all the other crazy things we have done with the 3pt on that tractor, i would try welding it first instead of buying a new one

I think your Dad did it right; with a piece tacked on to add strength it should be fine. Only thing is you just want to watch out you don't end up with all the weight on the other, unbroken side or it might break down the road somewhere.
