Starter Lock Up

About a month ago I purchased a new starter and drive from my Ford tractor dealer for my 9N. I used the starter maybe 10 times. The starter locked up. The drive was extended and the gear meshed with the ring gear. This is why I purchased a new starter. The old opne did the same thing. I have inspected the ring gear and it seems fine. Any other ideas?

Hi Ron,

Years ago I had an 8n. Every once and awhile the starter gear would "ride-up", for the lack of a better word, on the ring gear.

A few years went bye and we had to split the tractor to install a new clutch. We found that the ring gear was actually warped a little, maybe when someone replaced the ring gear and the welding process warped it.

This is just a thought. I hope that your problem is simpler. John,PA
