3 Point and PTO Problem

When I raise my finish mower using the 3 point hitch, it breaks the pin and the PTO shaft comes off.

If I raise it very slowly, I can get it to come up without breaking the pin. The wheel on the finish mower hits the back wheel of the tractor when raised all the way up.

Anyone else seen this?

Another question. How is this Zang Thing? I have a problem adjusting the 3 point to a desired level.

Thanks in advance

If you will Email me I can tell you what to do to fix the lift from coming up too far or not being able to control the height or position of the lift arms.

Or see the link below

more information needed...

which pin gets broken?

what model finish mower?

9N 2N 8N (zane thang only for 9N and 2N models)

as far as the wheel hitting the tractor tire, sounds like you need to shorten up the top ink on the three point hitch a little. Either that or the ends of the lower lit arms have been replaced (necessary when the ball and socet wear out) and the arms are now too short.

Thanks for the reply....

The tractor is a 1942 9N
The pin is the pin that holds the coupling (clutch) to the PTO shaft

Finish mower is a 5 ft Caroni (spelling?)

Any ideas?

wow - I am unfamiliar with that brand, but it would seem that the PTO shaft is your big problem.

I have a King Kutter which has its own problem. The gearbox is very close to the front of the mower. Additionaly, the N series tractor's PTO is located further away from the attachment of the three point hitch lift arms than modern tractors. Add to that the extra inches of an ORC and you have a very tight PTO shaft fit. When I cut my PTO shaft, it ended up too short for me to pick up the mover teck without it coming apart, yet to attach it, at least one of the 3ph lift arms has to be disconnected.

As far as your pin breaking, try shaving a little more off of your shaft.

Good Luck
