Misinformed or just plain wrong

Hi All,

There has been a couple of posts recently regarding individuals who are misinformed or uninformed or mistaken or just plain wrong about what they are telling you. I have found this to be a common phenomenon in many situations. I don’t think the person giving the erroneous information does it deliberately; they just flat-out don’t know what they are talking about. For example, when I was enquiring about engine rebuild kits for my 8N, a young guy who worked at the local NH parts department told me that the 8N engine did not have cylinder sleeves. I didn’t bother to argue or debate with him, I just said thank you and purchased my parts somewhere else.

Many individuals suffer from a lack of knowledge or job training or simply being misinformed themselves. In the past, I have been mistaken about certain things myself. However, I am open minded to the point that I can accept correction regarding my error.

In closing, I have noticed that many individuals in the work place are not well informed and will try to shoot you a line of bull rather than tell you they just don’t know the answer to your question.

One of the things I like about this forum is that most individuals who post here know their stuff; it is indeed refreshing. Rick H. Ga.

Yeh, and I'm sorry about that. But doggone it, if I'm right, I'm right. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I'll say so and learn from it. What set me off was this guy and his patronizing, condescending attitude, like I'd just fallen off the turnip truck and I needed HIM to lead me to the "truth," especially when he had it all wrong....

i read in a hot rod magazine about a guy wanting a gasket for a 9 inch ford rear end. counter kid says 'what vehicle'. after trying to tell him any old 9 inch gasket will work, he FINALLY says 41 willys coupe. the kid trys to find it then says no such gasket in stock. Imagine that. before the end of the story, the kid new a little about customizing, and the customer had found somebody to hook his PC up to the internet.

takes MOST kinds

As a superintendent in charge of large commercial construction projects I am faced with this type of behavior on a daily basis. I sometimes joke to my wife that people lie to me for a living. It varies from people telling you what they think you want to hear "Yeah I'll have that to you on tuesday" and you see it three tuesdays later. To what I call the sandbagger who tells you "That will take me all week to finish" then he finishes in two days. I am constantly making judgements about the accuracy of what I am being told. I will often ask a question that I know the answer to just to gage the knowledge and/or character of the person I'm talking to.

Rick, I've delt with the same type of people, but when my neighbor(new to tractors) ask me to go to the NH dealer to deal with the counter person, I jumped at the opportunity.

Pete's tractor is a 62 Ford 2000 LCG, model no. 2031 3S, serial no. <> 164987 <>

The NH dealer can not accept the fact that ford produced 2000 LCGs prior to '63, that actually had a serial number at the tail end of the x01 series tractors.

I've tried to politely correct and or inform them, even took pictures in, finally settled for "if the parts fit, we'll take it."

Where possible I'll try to educated others, but I refuse to teach a pig to sing.

Happening here more lately in my view.

Seems to happen more in the summer at the parts counter when the summer help just takes a guess. Like you I have gotten to the place where I tell them once and then just go on about my business.

Your mileage may vary
