8N now won't start

I purchased this 1950 8N a few month ago - always started up within two seconds of hittin' the starter button. The other day, it turned over very slowly - too slow to start. Had the local auto shop check the battery - it was shot. With a new battery installed - she now cranks great, but just won't start! I checked gas to the carb - good flow thru the elbow screen, checked for sparky's at the plug - looked ok (even replaced the plug wires) but still no go. Is there any way to isolate spark problems from fuel problems? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Ol' poke-

Just because you have spark doesn't mean you have proper spark. Are you sure you got those plug wires that you replaced back in the proper firing order (1-2-4-3)? If spark ain't nice whitiesh/blue, it's too weak. Check point gap/condition first. Check cap and rotor for carbon. Check each plug for fouling and reset gaps. Sparks can be easily tested with a spare plug set at proper gap. Just pull #2 or 3 wires and attach to spare plug. Ground plug to bare metal on engine and crank engine (neutral).

Sincher getting good fuel flow to carb and everything had been running just fine, DON'T touch the carb (yet). Check the fuel screen in the fuel line-to-carb-elbow for blockage. If none, spray a little WD40 or ether in each cylinder and crank her over. If starts right up and runs for a coupla seconds then carb is crudded up. REALIZE though that this test works only if you KNOW you have whitiesh/blue sparks. Even poor spark will detonante WD40/ether and give you the false impression that you have a fuel problem.

when i crank mine i watch my ammeter, if it dont bouce into the negative as i crank it i know im not going to start...so i pop the dist cap and with the key on i break the points to see if im getting spark there...if i have spark to the points i check my gas flow to the carb...steady stream there...i pull a plug if it sparks as i crank it i pull my carb of and clean it sometimes finding small grit....i do it this way cause its so easy....if this all fails then i do a slower more methodic search
