On a front-mount, you have to rig a wire somehow to the (-)terminal of the coil, another wire to the battery, and another wire to a good ground. There are usually instructions that come with the tach.

You could change the governor housing to a late model 8N governor housing with a Proofmeter drive, fabricate a plate to mount the proofmeter or swap the dash for a later 8N dash. Or you could find an electric tachometer. If you can't find a 6-volt tachometer, you could convert the whole system to 12-volt, buy a tach at most any auto parts store.

We have some newer stuff in our business. You just point a light at the shaft, and somehow it registers on a "tqachometer" that is mounted on the instrument panel. The "tach" can go up to 40,000 rpms's.

I ain't shure how it works, but in the industrial trade brochures they show a picture of all of these njew devices. No cables {flexin}. to break or anything. To transmitters either. Just a light beam. They say 2volts to 440 volts, ac, or dc. The cost of one of these new things is "Price on request". Problem is for me, I am afraid to call about this new stuff.

Scares me. Someth'n 'bout "red lights" beam'n in the eyes. Plus, in the new simulators, the gagues read horizontial, instead of them roud-ones that I have been used to since I started talking 'bout this hole thing.
