Rod..... ...by NEBRASKA state law, ALL TRACTORS SOLD in Nebraska, had to have their horsepower tested by the Univ of Nebraska Agriculture Engineering Dept. And that law was the result of a very influential Nebraska Senator being "stung" by a Minniapolis flim-flam tractor outfit named "FORD". And that is the reason Henry made the FORDSON, 'cuz he wouldn't buy out the flim-flam outfit to get his FORD TRACTOR name back.

The Univ Neb 1947-48 8N tractor test #385, lists the drawbar power at 16.18 hp and the belt (PTO) at 21.06 hp.

The Univ Neb 1948-50 8N tractor test #393, lists the drawbar power at 21.72 hp and the belt (PTO) at 25.77 hp.

And NO, I don't know why there is almost 5 hp difference between the two tests, but I'd suspect that was the reason for change of carburators from M/S TSX-33 to MS TSX-241.

Tractor manufacturers found the Univ Neb hp ratings to be "good advertising"..... . HORSEPOWER SELLS..... .....Dell

The 8N manual I have says 27.32 HP @ 2000 RPM. That's at the belt, the other horsepower ratings are taken off the drawbar. HTH
