I have a Caroni 5ft finish mower which does an exellent job on my 8n. My question is, since the height of grass cut is limited by the four wheels, could I hold the mower up with the hyd. lever to get a higher cut or would that harm the tractor? TIA

Yes you could do that but I'm sure you know the mower is not going to "float" over the contour of the ground this way, leaving high and low spots, you might try it to get the top knocked off then go back with the mower on the ground.???

The Caroni mower has a series of spacer bushings at each wheel shaft. When you put them all at the bottom for max height, that is as high as you would want to mow with this machine. Remember, this is not a bush hog, you don't want to mow real heavy grass. (the 3 blades are not cheep) I don't know if you got this mower second hand or not, if you don't know how to adjust height, e-mail me.

Two things, first raising the mower with the lift should not harm the lift, unless you do some serious banging around with the mover on uneven ground (which could damage it even if not lifted).

Secondly, check you mower carefully, look at the manual. I'd be very surprised if there is no way to adjust the cutting height by raising and lowering the wheels. (Unless you've already adjusted them all the way and still want to cut even higher.)

Yes, mower is adjusted to max. mowing height and I am wanting to mow higher than max. I was wondering if I could hold the mower higher with hyd. lift while mowing.

Yes, you could, but if it is that high, use a bush hog. When you have the Caroni off the ground, it will not be level and have the blades out of ballance. 8N lift is not always the most accurate at holding implements in a true possition. But it won't hurt your tractor to run the mower with it lifted a little, just make sure your PTO shaft still has room to flex.
