What is it telling me about the clutch when the tractor won't stop when I depress the clutch pedal and sometimes when it is in neutral, I depress the clutch to shift into gear and the gears just grind. Are the springs on the clutch plate shot? The clutch is adjusted about as far as it will go. Sure would appreciate a diagnosis..thanks..

Most likely there is oil on the clutch disc. This will cause the clutch not to want to disengage. It can really be exciting too sometimes when you are headed into the buzz saw or over the cliff.

About the only way to fix that condition is to replace the disc and find where the oil is coming from. The rear of the engine or the front of the transmisson or both.

There is supposed to be a big cotter pin hangine down from the clutch housing in the "weep" hole. This is to keep the "weep" hole from being clogged. If it clogged there is nowhere for the oil to go in the clutch housing.

The pilot bearing could also be bad or the clutch disc rivets that hold the material on the disc can be loose and allow the friction material to drag on the flywheel or pressure plate.

Zane and others, thanks for the info. I figgered I was in for some serious work here. I don't know about the history of the clutch so I guess I will bite the bullet and replace the clutch. P

Block down that clutch pedal when not in use, my old n used to do that when I first got it ( tranny was to full and leaked onto clutch and flywheel )It works fine now, 3 or 4 years of working in the dust must have dryed the clutch out .
