My 8N runs fine until I get into tall grass or under a load then it starts sputtering and wants to die until I push in the clutch. Anyone know the problem? Thanks in advance.

Its time for a tune up, new plugs points and condenser, set points at .015, you may also need to replace the dist. cap and rotor, depending on condition . Second choice fuel filters plugged or crud in the gas .

I also suspect a fuel problem. Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the carb and watch for a good flow. Not just for a few seconds as that is just the fuel in the carb bowl. The three filters: one in the fuel tank, one in the sediment bowl and one in the elbow going into the carb.

I would suspect it's your governor. It sounds like it isn't advancing like it should. Try to put the tractor under a load, where you can safeley watch the arms on the governor. (maybe somebody else driving and have them grab a foot full of binder) And see if the arms on it are working the throttle. If not that, check your fuel screens (there's 3.
