Hey everybody,
Just got finished doing this around my house and shop and thought I would post a reminder, and or share some info. About once a month I un-pack the dry powder in my fire extinguishers around the house and shop. It occurred to me (after talking with others) that many are un-aware of this simple proceedure that gives life to an often over looked safty device. We think, wow, we have a fire extinguisher, and so long as the gauge is in green, it will work for us. If it has been sitting for many monthes, it might not work at all. The reason why, is because the dry power inside the canister packs down, and can get hard, and may not leave the canister. What I do, in a quite place is listen to the tank as I slowly tip it upside down. It should sound like a 5 lb bag of suger sliding down the tank. (best example I could think of) If you hear nothing at all, take the palm of your hand and hit the bottom of the tank pretty good. You should hear the powder loosen up and begin to slide down towards the top of the tank. PS You're not shaking the can up. I might repeat this once or twice while I'm there listening for good powder "looseness" then return it to service 'till next month. By doing this, I know that the powder is "fluffed" and ready to go.

My fire extinguisher is attached to the back of my seat. I don't have the standard pan seat though. My seat looks like a lawnmower seat, but it sure is comfortable.

Speaking of fire extinguishers and tractors... I've been thinking that I should carry one on my 8N for the next time the exhaust starts something going. Anyone else carry one on their tractor, and if so what kind, size, and where do you attach it?

While I don't have one on my 8n or NAA yet, I do have one on my NH 1920, attatched to a rops upright. I plan on adding one to my cub as well, and attatch it to either the seat bottom, tool box, or the upright on the buggy top I'm adding.

I've been trying to think of a good spot on the N's to add one. I'm thinking somewhere under the seat, or to the back of the SMV bracket.. I made my brackets out of sturdy 'L' shaped brackets that attatch thru the top hole in the toplink rocker... also keeps me from accidentially using that top hole.... 2nd hole stores an extra pin... etc.

Great ideas as a reminder to all about how good it is to carry a fire extinguisher with you.

Ha Bryan, I have one of those little dry chemical jobs like folks carry in their boats and cars and such. It's mounted to the fender just ahead of the work lite. It's not in the way,and matches the "red belly". I cost $12, cheap insurance, there's been more than once I'd have paid big money to have one in hand.
