Hi Guys, I'm new to the tractor scene. A buddy of mine offered to sell me his 9 N for $1500 includes KK 5' brush hog, push blade and hay spike. The tractor starts easily, runs smoothly. Has a few agro-engineered quick fixes such as a clamp on a broken throttle rod, a leaky sediment bowl and a generator that won't recharge the battery. Oh yeah, and he threw a rod last year and had to have nearly everything in the engine replaced and welded up. I planned to push some snow and plow a garden, maybe mow the yard. I may want to use it as a trade in. Any thoughts on relative value? thanks.

If you are at least fair with a wrench it is a good price. If your not he could give it to you and you would lose money in the long run.

It would bring that easily without the impliments here in West Michigan. Don't plan on lifting round bales with that spike. The lift was never engineered for a load like that. You may want to make sure the 3-point operates properly before you sign off. A new pump and/or other internal hydraulic parts can get pricey especially if you aren't doing the wrenching yourself.

Good luck

Offer him 1400, and if he bites, take the hundred you saved and fix the sediment bowl and get the generator overhauled. That's just what I'd do.

I think the biggest question is how badly was the block damages when it threw a rod? How well was it welded? All things said and done, that's still a good price!---Rob

Robbie.

Think about it this way.

If you went and bought a new riding mower for 1400 or 1500 $, what is it going to be worth in 5 or 10 years; not much.

You could buy the 9n tractor and do about 399 other things besides mowing. dig a basement, or pond. blade the driveway snow removal too.plow a garden, or a 40 acre field. how about planting corn? or lifting heavy loads with the 3pt lift.

After you`ve done all that, you still have a good tractor that you`ll be able to get your money back out of 20 years later!

Now, does`nt that make the 9n a real bargain?
