On the distributor side of the engine just above the distributor there is a 4" by 20" side plate with a gasket that is leaking oil. Does anybody know what the purpose of this plate is? Is there anything ususual about changing this gasket? Just looks like three bolts.

Thanks

Behind the plate are the pushrods and an oil tube that feeds the rockershaft.

You should replace the seal washers on the 3 studs also and do not overtighten.

nothing to worry about take the two nuts off and change the gasket, and put them back on. There's nothing going to jump out.
