NAA Transmission in 2 gears

It seems my NAA is in two gears at the same time. One forward and one reverse. There is a rod that runs forward to back, under the shifter cover, that is always out of alignment when I pull the top cover off. I usually can fix the problem with a little prying but it seems to be really locked up this time. Does anyone have any suggestions about unbinding the gears and a remedy to the problem?

The shift lever and the trans. top cover wears and doesn't move what it needs to far enough, both are still available, if you are using a rotary cutter make sure you use an overrunning coupler on the pto to avoid trans. strain.
