LAST WEEK SOMEONE POSTED A QUESTION ON HOW TO GET RID OF A CERTAIN TYPE OF WEED...IT WAS ANSWERED BY "USE ROUNDUP"...A BETTER WEED KILLER IS "CROSSBOW WEED KILLER"...IT KILLS BLACK BERRIES VERY WELL...YOU WILL SEE RESULTS THE NEXT DAY...IF IT IS SOLD IN YOUR STATE, IT GOES FOR APPROXIMATELY $55.00 A GALLON...TYPE IN YOUR SEARCH ENGINE TO FIND A PLACE TO BUY IT. NOW, MY QUESTION IS; HAS ANYONE USED THEIR BUSH HOG TO CUT DOWN BLACK BERRIES...NOT BY DRIVING THROUGH THEM LIKE AN IDIOT, BUT BY LIFTING THE BUSH HOG AND BACKING UP TO THE BLACK BERRIES AND EASING THE HOG DOWN?...IF SO, DOES IT WORK? THANKS, RALPH

That hog can whip some of those big sticker bushes back on you for a world of hurt, barbed wire aint much fun either, hooked on to an abandoned wire once, almost pulled the utility pole on top of my head , I think the good Lord watches out for me .An old piece of carpeting will give you fits when it gets wraped around the blades, a propane torch is the answer, be safe out there .

I get them regularly before they get that big and can attack you.

I use a MF 40B with a loader to bush hog. I set the loader about a foot and a half off of ground and drive through the black berries. Only one of them was able to reach out and scratch my arm. I had about two acres of them 4’ – 10’ high, but after mowing them twice the grass is filling in nicely.

Wait a second. Lift a rock & debris hurling brush hog while the PTO is turning at a high rate of speed and risk life & limb because you don't want to go in reverse. Who is the idiot? Besides, my hog sucks up, not blows down, no probs cutting tall weeds & vines.

Ralph..... ...here in the great north/wet, where blackberries are an indicator species for salmon protecting wetland habbitat, chemical control of blackberry bushes is "prohibited". Might kill the salmon you know. Salmon, the ONLY wildlife you can buy over your grocery store counter.

So you're left with natural control by hungry electric fenced in goats. (and then they complain about the goat berrys) Better yet, are hogs for rooting out the berry roots. (tip: bury some shelled corn kernels for hogs to try and find)

...OR... back up to them and let the brushog chomp away.

I too am an idiot. My MF 285 handles them like Israelites thru the Red Sea. I haven't mowed em yet just mashed em over and over. I'm afraid the smaller 8N would just tunnel thru the 12 foot tall canes.

Actually this time of year I like to eat their children (yummie pies!) and I'll kill'em later.

Use Crossbow after the new growth has slowed. Seems to suck back into the plant better.

David-OR wrote a very good blackberry removal post. Here's the link.

I am an idiot. :-)
Well, let me modify that statement... I've driven through the blackberries to mow them down...

I've also backed into them. Works OK... at least well enough that you can then drive through them to finish cutting them down...

Steve
