Took my rear tires to co-op to get them demounted so I could clean them up to paint and put on new tires(old ones had chunks coming out of them)and found out the rims are badly rusted thru. The tires I was going to get are firestone 11.2x28. Wondering if I should get 11x28 or 10x28 rims ,or don't I have a choice ? Have other problems, but that will be another post,or two !!

Hey Putz-
The original rear rims were 10 x 28 and they ARE THE SAME as the 11.2 x 28. Back then they measured the inside width of the tire and now they measure the outside, but they are one and the same. Original N style rims are hard to find let alone a set without rust thru from Calcium Chloride. Several new style 6-loop rims are available from your local AG tire dealer. As Soundguy said, we restorers try to save an original as best as possible. If you need the new tires loaded, try a newer product to replace the CaCl as there are a few that won't rust out the rims, Rim Guard is one. Ask your Firestone dealer as he would know. HTH

This same thing happened to me 2-3 weekends ago. Long story short, I called Tucker tire. They sent me 11.2X28, on loop style rims, for $150.00 less than the local place could. I try to support the local guys when I can, but this was too much savings to pass up. Got em in 2 or 3 days, delivered to the house. They're not Firestones but they seem to be ok. Good luck....don t. ....

Some small rust holes can be welded. Large areas of rust though may compromise the rim. Not sure if rims without centers are available.. but am sure they are.
