I have bought another 8N and need help on two
things. The carb (tsx33)looks like Ham handed Harry worked on it even the castings are goughed up inside. Which carb would be better to get, a tsx241 or stay with a tsx33? Also can I add anything to the 10w-20 Hyd. fluid to give it more body? I can't find 90w Min. oil.
Thanks for your help!!!

The 90wt GL-5 would eat up the yellow metal (brass, bronze, etc) so they now have GL-5 MT-1 designation that supposedly will no longer effect those metals. An 8N didn't use mineral oil, it used "Mild E.P. gear oil conforming to Ford spec. M-4864-A & B. 80wt below 32 degrees and 90wt above.

Besides Tractor Supply, I get my GL-1 at Advance Auto Parts. They have it in the 5 gal pails.

Mike..... ...I'd try and get the current carb running right with a full carb rebuild kit. Blemishes don't hurt. And since they don't make M/S carbs anymore, you'll pay for ? replacement.

And don't mucka round with hydraulic additives. CHANGE YER HYDRO OIL (5 gal buckett, $25 cheap). Ford/New Holland now recommends spec: M2C-134D hydro-tranny oil. 3-drains, 1-fill'em-up by the tranny shifter. Drain the square diffy plug first, then the 3" tranny, then the 3" hydro. Yes, you can use the 1939 spec: 90wt mineral oil if you can find it. GL-1 is ok. DO NOT USE multi-weight tranny oil like 80-90, additives are unfriendly.

Can any of the farm stores or petro places order the 90w gl-1 oil for you? TSC carries it here in central fl.

This is just a wild a$$ guess.. but what about an addative made for final drives.. but one that won't hurt the hyd system.. perhaps one of lucas oil products addatives.. there are 3 that come to mind.. the tranny addative.. the power steering addative, and the gear oil addative.

I make no claims about the fit/use of these products. Best to get some opinions first... like I say.. I'm just guessing here as obviopusly if you want the 90w oil.. it would be better to have it, than to modify something else.. etc.
