Thanks guys. I'm glad I didn't start my tractor with kerosene in it. I'll drain it tonight. That brings me to the reason I cleaned it in the first place. I'll try to keep this short. First, I don't see any leaks inside. But, the lift only seems to works on the lower part of the quadrant lever. If I put the lever all the way to the bottom and move it up very slowly to about half way up, the lift comes up a little at a time, if I raise the quadrant all at once to half way up the lift comes up about 3 feet, to high because the pto shaft on the bush hog will hit. Then if I drop the lever the lift drops almost to the ground. I can't explain it any better but I don't seem to have good control. If I adjust the quadrant by loosening the four bolts I either get draft or position. Can't seem to strick a happy medium. I'm not afraid to take it apart, but I don't know what to look for. I'm at the end of my ability to diagnose. I really appreciate you guys taking your valuable time to help.

If you have an 8N the lift needs to be adjusted. I have a jig that is designed to give you a point to adjust to. Other maunals use a system of measuring rods and springs and that will not work on an old worn set of linkages that are what is in most 8Ns after over 50 years.

See the link below for more information.

Can't remember if you have a 9/2n or an 8n.. but if an 8n.. make sure the draft/position controll is up.. for position control.
