Please Help

I have a ford 8N (do not know the year but the distributor is on the front, not side) and having the following problems:

1.The battery allways needs to be charged. The gauge always shows 0 or negative amps. I have put a meter on the generator while running and get no voltage reading (not sure if I am doing it right)

2.The tractor was running fine but now to keep it running I have to hold open the choke lever otherwise it runs poorly and will stall. What should I check?

3. I have a loader kit that used to work but it is not lifting any load now. It can lift the empty bucket but not with any load.
Once the empty bucket is raised I have but a few hundred pounds of rocks in it and it holds the weight. I have a chisel plough on the rear and noticed that after shutting the engine off it drops to the ground in about 1 minute. Is it possible that the pump is worn out?

Any help would be appreciated.

Robert

If you find that your genny isn't putting out.. check to see if it needs to be polarized.. Just arc/spark the batt and arm terminals at the regulator, with the unit not running. It would be nice if it was that easy.. but probably won't be. Might be time to take the vr and genny into a shop to have them checked.

Robert..... ....the answer to #2 is #1. If your not charging your battery (#1) then you're gonna have weak sparkies (#2). Weak sparkies will kinda fire a enriched mixture (choke). Number of reasons for (#1), bad brushes, bad voltage regulator.

Check by measuring genny output at BIG stud at endplate of genny. Should be close to 7 volts if charging, if not, its likely your brushes. Then measure your battery volts while engine runnin', battery volts should be same number as genny STUD. If not, its yer voltage regulator.

#4 is likely your hydraulic lift cylinder. To check, remove your 6" round dipstick plate and look inside while lifting your implement. Look for squirts with flashlight. That will tell you if cylinder or gasket.

#3 not enuff info. There are several types of FEL's. Some with frontend motor driven hydraulic pumps. Some tap off the N-Hydraulic corner pressure port. If this is your case, your answer is #3..... .....respectfully, Dell
