I have a 42 9N, and was cruising the archives, but my tractor does not have the codes where indicated. (starter bulge, oil pan, right axle trumpet, etc.) The only code I can find is on the head, C239. I thought I read somewhere that Ford didn't start the codes until '43. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

The casting date code did not start on the engine block at the starter bulge until 1943, the head has the date code on but alot warp so many were changed as with yours that has a casting date of March 23, 1949, 1959, 1969 or 1979, if you have the origonal carb. it may have a 1 or 2 stamped on the side of the housing for 1941 or 1942, the front wheel hubs on the inside may have a casting date, no code would be on the axle trumpet on a 1942, 1942 9N's had no external hood side panel lower mounting bolt, a steel dash panel and a non pressurized radiator.

Thanks for the info. I am not surprised that the head is not original, and was sure it was a 42 model.
