I just bought a 1955 Ford 630. But I did not know it was a 630 when I bought it; I thought a 600 was just a 600, I did not know there were different models in the 600 series. According to what I read on the link articles here, the 630 has a three point lift but no PTO. Mine has a PTO and a three point lift. Was it possible to add a PTO to a 630? Anyone else have a Ford 600 series that says 630 above the serial number? Anyone else have a 630 with a PTO? I never heard of a 630 until I found this web site. Thanks.

The 620 and 630 "600" series did not have a pto.

My Sherman fork lift is a 630 no pto, no tack, also have 620 no pto or hyd. Its easy to add the pto , the hyd. are more difficult. BURT.

Thanks Burt, sounds like 630's out there come both ways on the pto.

Phil, you ask a very good question. All the accepted authoritative information says a 630 has a 3ph but no pto. Yet there are 630's out there that do have a pto. The explanation I've been given is that the pto was optional on a 630. But that doesn't make sense, since a 630 with a pto is the same as a 640.

Question for you: does your 630 have a proofmeter in the dash? I don't think a proofmeter was standard on a 630. The other 630 that I heard of that had a pto did not have a proofmeter. Maybe that would be a farmer's way of saving a few bucks: buy a 630 and order it with a pto so it still costs less than buying a 640, then just live without the proofmeter. If he's trading in a 9N, he's used to not having a proofmeter anyway so might as well save the $25.

Just my guess.

Thanks Dan and Jim, the web page is helpful. Jim I do not have a proofmeter only a oil presure and heat gauge. I wonder if the serial number was punched on while the tractor was on the assembly line and the decision to add the PTO was made later. I do not know this tractor's history but the PTO looks original.
