Hi fellas, I got a question. Is it normal to get a voltage reading off of the alternator terminal when the tractor is shut down and the key is in the off position?(reads the same as the battery when off,12.9). When the tractor is not running, a reading at the battery shows about 12.9 volts and when it is running it shows about 14.9 volts at the battery. Are these good or bad readings? Please remember guy's that I am a new 8N owner, but boy I sure do love it. I guess it will take time to learn about this great machine.
I also want to thank you all for a great bunch of guy's on this great board.....Randy

The big output post on the alternator is connected to the start solenoid and thence directly to the battery. So it will read the same as the battery with the key on or the key off.

P2 (on the 10SI) is jumpered over to the big output post on most installations, so naturally it will read the same as the battery as well.

P1 (on the 10SI) should be connected through the key switch (and side marker lamp or diode or what-have-you) so that it DOES NOT receive voltage with the key off. It will drain your battery while the tractor is parked, otherwise.

Your voltage readings (12.9 / 14.9) are normal.
