Way OFF Topic...Need help with Windows XP

I recently installed Windows XP. I love the new version, however, one thing I am not able to change is the drop down menus. I would like the ability to do a search and not have the computer remember the word and drop down past searches when I type in the first letter. I know there is a way to change it...but I haven't found it yet. Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks to both of you for your help. I was able to remove the drop down windows via your instructions.

Are you talking about Internet explorer?

Is so, click on tools, internet options, content rab, and then select the auto complete button. Deselect autocomplete for web addresses.

Sidenote: it is HIGHLY recommended to NOT use Autocomplete for user names and passwords. Doing this can allow a hacker to obtain both.

Deselect autocomplete for usernames and passwords in this same menu.

(Windows user since 1.0 Loaded once, used once ;) Still have it in the original package -and the 5 1/4" disks.)

Roland,

If you are talking about searches with the Internet browser, under Tools/Internet Options, on the first tab, set the history to a minimum. There is also a Content tab with an "Auto Complete button. Click on that button and uncheck the web address box.

If you are talking about Windows Explorer, then under Tools/Folder Options, the VIEW tab has the setting for that.

Hopes this helps.
