Your tractor (or just the engine) is one of the WW2 production tractors made from late 1942 to mid 1943 from about serial# 9N100000 to about 9N120000 that were crank start with a magneto and had steel wheels, then after the war was over and metal and rubber was plentiful and the farmer had money they were converted to battery ignition and rubber tires, check for a long front axle pivot pin that extends front to near the crank hole in the grille to see if the engine matches the rest of the tractor.

not all of them had steel wheels and mags during the war effort. There were constant switches back and forth from rubber models to steel models throughout the war. Although it is highly likely that it had steel wheels, it is impossible to know which way it came from the factory unless you could track down the original owner or locate the various hardware clues. Also look for a small hole on the hood panel to the left of the grille (when facing it). This was for the choke rod to pass through so you could crank with the hand crank and work the choke from the front.

Albert..... ...congratulations, you have the "braggin' rights" to a 1943 2N Ford Tractor. All 2N's s/n start with 9N. 2N's were made from 42-47. Note: on the left sidebar, there is a "Research & Info" heading and under that is an entry "Serial Numbers", you can read all aboutitt.

Suggest you seriously consider the merits of having your very own personal copy of the I&T FO-4 manual. Readily available from sponsors of this great N-Board, most agricultural emporiums, amazon.com, www.n-news.com also has a great archive of most of the 400 3-point implements made for the N-Tractor. Even most Ford/New Holland dealers sell it, isn't that amazing? Even my local (byte my tongue) John Deere parts counter has it on display for sale. $27 cheap, gettcha one and readitt..... ....Dell
