A few days ago I posted a comment here on the N board that I believed breaking down the big rear ag tires on a tractor was better left up to professionals. I am beginning to rethink my logic on that issue.

I took my rear tire to have the tube repaired this morning. I haven’t had a tractor tire repaired in several years. The last time I had one repaired it cost $15. Well, I got a slight surprise on the current cost. There was a $35 charge just for breaking the tire off the rim; another $10 to repair the tube. It was $45 for the total.

Repairing your on tractor tires might not be such a bad idea after all.:-) Rick H. Ga.

Rick. I just had my pickup in for an oil change and they found a low tire that had a nail in it. Charge--$25.00. Think you got off pretty good. Ron

I had a rear patched this summer. $45 and it was full of fluid. I just picked up 2 fronts repaired from thorns in them. $6 for a new tube installed or $8 for repair!! Go figger. Steve 8N 169302

Tire stuff in general has gone up.

I priced complete rubber for my 8n last year, but never got to it. had to replace some of it a few months ago.. and in the year or so that lapsed, the tire price went up 18%....

As for patches... the local places around here charge from 12-18 bucks to patch a tire.. thats a car or truck tire ... more for the big stuff. Our dealer that does road service for large trucks like dump trucks.. etc.. charges 35$ for the patch on them.. not including the call fee..

We have a tire dealer here in Fort Wayne In. who repairs car & pickup truck tires for "free". He does a heck of a busness with people who always buy there tires there because of that. The tires to be repaired don't have to be originaly purchased there either.

Local tire dealer here [southwest Montana] does the same--i.e. free flat repair for cars and light trucks. I always at least get him to price anything round and black before I buy it and am willing to give him a few bucks more than what they charge at the big box stores. It is worth something to me to keep the money here in the valley. Sermon over

There is alot to be said about customer service / loyalty.

I used to do business here and there for tires.. whoever was on sale that day.

A bit of a while back I needed a large rear tractor tire on my NAA.. took it down, unloaded it at a dealer I had frequented here and there... he did the tire, and I came back at the end of the day to get the tractor.. Long story short.. it was starting to rain, and I was in a hurry.. and this is an antique tractor.. well, my foot slipped on the clutch, and I partially drove the tractor off the front of the trailer.

Tire placed had just closed.. but owner saw what happened.. grabbed one fellow still there, and came out with a jack and timber, and in about 30 minutes we had the tractor off the trreailer, and back on again -properly-.. I offered money, but they refused. .. I got lucky... total for repairs for all that ordeal was a .59 cent 'e' clip that broke on my trailer jack handle, and a scratch on the tractors bumper..... no other tractor damage.. no truck damage.. and only that e-clip on the trailer handle, when the bumper whacket the trailer jack...

I now by all my tires there... the 2-3 bucks I could save elsewhere are nothing compared to the service I got that day.
