I have a '51 8N. I also have a 3-bottom Allis Chalmer plow. I'd like to modify it to a 3-point. Has anyone done this? I think I can weld two brackets to each end of the main front bar of the plow which I can put the two 3-point pins on. Then weld a bracket on top for the top link. The measurements all seem to work. Just a little nervous about converting it and it actually working! The other big question is can the 8N handle a 3-bottom? I could remove one of the blades and make it a 2-bottom. Never plowed before so not sure what I'm getting into. Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. After reading these responses and gatheing some info from some local farmers, it appears this 3-bottom will be more work than it's worth and do more harm than good. I'm selling the A-C plow and on the hunt for a 2-bottom 3-point plow. It's just not worth the risk or hurting my good 'ole 8N. Thanks for the advice. Close one.

Alan: (1)Your A-C plow is likely 50 years old and not all of them worked good in all soils for all farmers when new. A worn plow with worn parts may not plow good even when adjusted by an experienced plowman. (2) The workings of a three-point hitch for a plow appear simple, yet the adjustments built into the hitches are crucial.(3) I have seen a number of plows converted to a three-point hitch from some other type of hitch and I have yet to see a good one. Hi Alan,

When I bought by 49 8N in 1977, I didn’t get any implements with it. One of my neighbors had for sale a four disc tiller (similar to bottom plow). I was excited about buying a plow for my 8N. I drove the 8N to the neighbors place, hooked up the 4 disc tiller and headed to my field (the 8N lift did lift it OK). I got a surprise when I started plowing the field. The 8N would just go in circles with the front end almost off the ground. I found out by trial and error that the 8N is a 2-bottom or 2-disc tiller tractor and no more.

I have an old Ferguson 2-bottom plow and the N pulls it fine. I have had a 2-disc tiller that the N pulled fine.

You might do like I did; just try it and see. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

Your N wont pull 3 bottoms. Period.
Is it a mounted plow or a trailer plow?
If it is a trailer plow like the good ones that Oliver or JD made you might drop one share and pull it with a drawbar like it's supposed to.
If it is a mounted plow you might weld up a rig to attach the Allis Snap Coupler to your 3 point.
But you still wouldn't the easy adjustments nor have the draft control that these little Ns set the standards in farming for.
Myself, I wouldn't cobble another brand of implement to fit onto an N. I'd sell it for more $ than you will pay for a more common Ford or Dearborn implement. Then buy the Right plow for my tractor and take the wife out to dinner with the difference.
Good luck

Im thinking you could pull a 3 point set shallow in soft ground , but then your just scratching and not plowing .Ultradog and Dell have the correct answer.

Good 3-point 2-bottom plows $150-250. 23hp N's just don't have the power for 3-bottoms..... ..Dell

No problem in making 3 pt. But would drop one bottom. True it is easier to trade plows but one can pick up an Allis 3 bottom snap coupler plow cheaper than a 3 point. And Allis plows do good.

you say that the allis 3 bottom snap can be picked up? I would certainly like to find a 2-3 bottom for my 45 - within 3 hours of minneapolis. If you hear of someone wanting to sell one, send them my way.

I found plows for an Allis in Owatonna and in Monticello. I went on antiquetractors.com and posted a Wanted Ad. Got lots of bites in short time. I need a colter for my plow, anyone have an idea of how to find one?
